Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/15/2007
Emperor of the Fading Suns is a science fiction strategy game. The game has a wide variety of units and a very complex back-story along with it. The game takes place on a galactic map and specific planet maps. There is a grid system used for the movement in planet maps. Each individual unit and building takes up a single grip. There are several menus that will handle diplomacy, chat, and documentation. The graphics in the game are quite simplistic with a top down grid view of the game.
To win the game you will explore planets to find ancient relics, begin war on other groups in the game, and do research on forbidden technology. The research is a major part of the game, which will allow you to earn new units and buildings. If you are caught researching forbidden technologies the church will send Inquisitors to your planet that will end up burning your research facilities. When you own forbidden technology you usually will have very powerful units.
You are attempting to get control over the galaxy and attempting to get the throne of Emperor. You will take on the role of one of the five Noble house leaders. Each one of them wants the Emperor position causing a huge galactic nightmare. You will also be battling against the Universal Church, the Merchant League, and rebel groups like the Vau and the dangerous Symbiots. At the beginning of the game you won’t have any real enemies, other than the rebels that are out to get everyone. You will want to create alliances, start wars, make trades and do anything you can to seize control of the galaxy and take the throne as the Emperor.
The game can be quite difficult for a new coming player. The game is very complex when it comes to the story behind it. There are so many things you are attempting to do as well avoiding getting caught doing. No matter what there is someone who is going to be trying to defeat you for the throne making it a very exciting game full of a lot of battles and thought. Emperor of the Fading Suns is a very well thought out game, but is difficult in many ways. This game will keep you going for hours with the many different things to expect to happen. Even if you find this game a little too difficult for your gaming level attempt it because you will love it and the story that is behind it.
