Game Review (written by Paparogue) Added on: 06/05/2008
What to say about this game. Let's start by saying this is not to be confused with Imperium Romanum or really anything roman. This is galactic War/Strategy at its best for its time.
The game was released in 1990 and presented the user with a world of complexities that may have actually effected its sales as word did NOT spread fast of how much fun this game was - only how complicated it could be.
As the Leader of earth and its galactic empire you must control your diplomacy with other galaxies, your economy, and of course all war actions.
This game will leave anyone that is a strategy gamer quite satisfied with well over 35 hours of good gaming. I would like this to a number of games in playing style with the majority being the older Koei Historical sim series (RTK, Nobunaga, bandit kings etc) and the best example I can offer as the learning curve it Pacific Theatre of operations for PC (P.T.O2). while the game is much different the style of administration and the "Ethos" of the game are very similar; that being, if you can understand all the nuances you will have great fun and the game is very repayable.
There is an interesting sub plot through out the game that I won't mention in this article but suffice it to say sometimes you can't say no to drugs.
I personally have never really been a fan of a lot of the early Games that EA financially backed but I would definitely say you can not call yourself a true Strategy Gamer if you have not played this game . From the deepest point of the universe to your own backyard there is no decision that does not have some consequence and while you sometimes feel you are aware of a predictable outcome. Well strategy is strategy isn't it.
I hope you enjoy playing this game, I might now need to go hit start one more time as I am feeling the nostalgia.
