Krush, Kill and Destroy: Krossfire is a solid game and a great download. I downloaded it a couple weeks ago and it’s been taking up my time ever since. It’s an easy install, which is hard to find on this site, and game play is very easy to figure out. It’s all very similar to starcraft but a little more complex. I haven’t figured out all the details yet, but there are a lot of interesting commands that aren’t in other real time strategy games that I’ve played.
For example, there’s a “waypoint” command you can use to have units move in a path that you assign by following certain “waypoints”. I haven’t really found a use for this yet, but I’m sure someone has.
The similarities with
Starcraft in this game are boarder line plagiarism. There are three different civilizations you can play as; the Evolved, the Survivors, and Series 9. The Evolved are similar in design to the zerg, most of their units and buildings are living things. They also even use giant scorpions. The Survivors are similar to the Terrans. They’re supposed to be more like humans; they use normal human things like machine guns and tanks. Then there’s the Series 9, which is similar to the Protoss. Their units are all machines, and they’re yellow. What puts this game behind starcraft is the unit abilities. Pretty much the only thing each unit can do is fight. You don’t even use units to build things, which is kind of a plus. You don’t have units that turn into other things or cast spells and stuff like that.
But, there is a lot to like about KKdK. You can jump around between civilizations as much as you want. You can play one level as the Evolved, and then the next to as Survivors if you want. This helps give the game a little more variety, and it keeps me from totally giving up if I get stuck on one level. Their upgrading system also keeps it interesting. They have a wide variety of units you can get once you upgrade. They even have a unit type called “constructibles”. These are units that you can design yourself to an extent. Later on in the game when you can upgrade more, you’ll get more choices for what you can use to make your unit. You can make your unit large or small; have the ability to carry other units, or have a giant plasma gun on its back, making it a walking turret. This is something that seems to be unique to KKdK in the real time strategy genre. Overall, this is a sweet game and a quality download.
