Game Review 1 (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/21/2007
Last Call is a simulation game where you will be taking the part of a bartender. You will be attempting to get a large sum of tips from your customers. To get great tips you will do pretty much anything the customers ask you and make their drinks quickly and correctly. There are many things you decide that take part in your bar. You will decide on the type of music that is playing, what people you will allow in your bar, who you’ll flirt with and who you get kicked from your bar.
The game has a variety of people that are in the game. There are twenty different patrons in this game. Each patron has his or her own personality and odd things about him or her. Depending on what they are like, you may get along with them great, or have a lot of bad chemistry between the two of you. You will have to interact with every customer that comes in and out of your bar whether you like that or not. The game is played in real time, you will notice a clock at the bottom of your screen ticking away.
If you are able to earn enough tips on your shift you will get the option to take part in the bonus shot round. The bonus shot round will have you handing items to the patrons from behind the bar before the time runs out on you. You will be mastering many different drink recipes, at the beginning of your shift they will be less complicated, but the further into the night you get the harder the drinks will become. The customers also become a lot harder to keep happy, making your job twice as hard. You must card every single person that comes into your bar. If you don’t card everyone there is a good chance of you loose your job. If you are able to discover an underage drinker you will receive bonus cash, since this is a good thing to catch before your boss catches them. You will have to work a lot of shifts and make tons of tips throughout this game to defeat it.
The game has over a hundred drinks that you will find in real life. They range from the very simple vodka shot to the extremely difficult Alabama Slammer. There is an online recipe book that will contain all the drinks that you may be asked to make at one point or another, each listed in alphabetical order. The great part is when there is a drink order placed it will automatically go to the page with the ingredients so you know exactly what is going into it. You must mix the drinks as fast as possible. If you are slow the patrons will leave your bar and leave you with no tips.
The controls of the game can be quite difficult to figure out right away. You will be using your mouse and keyboard. There are many keyboard keys that you will be required to use. It is best to master the combinations fast to win the game. It is not mandatory to get the exact amount of ounces that is indicated in the ingredients, but if you do the customer will be much happier. You will have the option to put additional booze into the drinks, which will also please your customers more too. If you don’t get the minimum amount of tips required by the end of your shift, you will not win the game.
Last Call is a very humorous game. The patrons throughout the game are hysterical, and the cartoon design fits perfectly with the game entirely. The game is a mature rating game since there is explicit language and sexual slang; so don’t get your children playing this game. With the variety of patrons and learning how to make many different types of drinks in this game, you will be playing it for hours. Last Call is a great adult game and will give you a great knowledge in the drinking world. You will love this game no matter what, come on who doesn’t enjoy a game that teaches you how to make new fancy drinks?

The range of drinks can really vary, especially with the tips on how to make the soda gun use Soda water, Water, Tonic, and other items from that same gun. Ability to remember "keyboard shortcuts" is vital as the amount of time it can take to select what component you need from the gun will go up using a mouse rather than just pressing a key on the keyboard. The recipe book is very helpful with the measurements required for each drink a customer could possibly request, even if you know what parts are involved with the drink. I, for example, know exactly what parts go in a White Russian, but I had no clue the exact weights involved. Too much straight alcohol, and your customer gets unhappy, too little and they get mad at you for not making the drink strong enough.
All in all, this is an enjoyable game if you’re of drinking age, and have ever wondered how many components are involved with many popular drinks today and even some you have not heard about for a while, and even the ones that you may not have heard of at all.
