Game Review (written by Slimynewt) Added on: 08/23/2006
Lords of the Realm is a turn based strategy game. You rule shires and the peasants in them. The goal is to become king, which means either taking over all the shires or defeating all your enemies. But its not that easy you must also manage you peasants.
I personally like this game for the ability to build a nation and take over the other players as I have done in multiplayer mode and single. The set up is simple however you cannot decide specifically which computer player characters you play with.

I personally like this game for the ability to build a nation and take over the other players as I have done in multiplayer mode and single. The set up is simple however you cannot decide specifically which computer player characters you play with. Other problems occur when in multiplayer mode if one person has the game speed higher or lower than the other person. When in a fight one person can be just finishing

up the battle when the other one is still engaging the enemy as you can see this would give a disadvantage to someone who could not handle higher speeds. Other problems include difficulty level. There are only three levels of difficulty easy, medium, and hard. The easy setting is easier than the other two but still can be very hard.
The game has a certain realistic quality that games don’t have nowadays and I’m not talking about graphics. You must feed your peasants and keep them happy by doing so.
You must make or buy specific weapons in other games there is no need to have specific weapons. The men in other games may be good against certain types of people but the workers and such do not make different weapons they make different men. Different weapons do different jobs. Knights are good against archers; mace men are good against peasants. Just like some men in other games may be good against others like the example but it adds a note of realism to the game having it be more complex. Armies can also burn crops and kill cows of an enemy to make the people of that shire mad at they’re ruler.
I also like how on the big map there are obstacles, things like oceans, forests, or mountains. These obstacles add even more realism to this awesome game.
Another thing is just because its old it doesn’t make it a bad game it just makes it work better on today’s computers. My brother and I both find that old games are some of the best. The game could be better if it had boats but I am content with it the way it is.

BadAverageVery Good

A old game but a classic. Easy to play and miles ahead of other games of the same period. This game is timeless and is as good today as when it first came out. It puts new games in the shade and is a simple, strategic action game.

I think this game rocks! The newer version LOTR3 was not as good as this version. I agree though that the graphics are really outdated from today’s standards. The battle scenes were well panned for the game at the time it was released. Anyhow, I grew up playing this game so I think it still is awesome.

I have been looking for this classic for years. I first played this game in 1998 and loved. Thank you for keeping thses classic games alive.

This game was fantastic back in the day. Ah, the nostalgia. I particularly love the diplomacy aspect of this game, and the micromanagement that takes place. Its sore spot was probably the fighting where the AI was particularly horrible. However, the castles and sieges that took place gave the game an excellent flavor. I would still recommend anyone to check this game out.
