Game Review 1 (written by Seraphicdragon) Added on: 09/27/2006
Lords of the Realm 2: siege pack by sierra is expansion of lords 2 which was probably one of the first strategy games I think I ever played. That was back when I only had a 3 GB hard drive. Now we are in the age of 200 GB hard drives along with 3D graphics and loads of other games out there which are much better visually but still the originals always seem better. Lords 2 is as I said before a strategy game but also has some simulation mixed in as well.
You are the lord of a country and are trying to conquer the other countries around you until you become the Lord of all the lands. Its a fairly straight forward game and has a good mixture of simulation and strategy that fans of both genres should find appealing. For the simulation part you have to feed your peasants mine iron and wood and for the strategy part you have to use the iron and wood to create weapons to arm you armies to beat your opponent.
The AI in this game is okay they are just really repetitive each of your AI opponents do slightly different things like the baron loves his cows and countess loves her siege engines and the knight loves his knights so with each AI you need a slightly different strategy to defeat them. The problem is that once you figure out there strategy they hardly deviate from it so it’s a lot of repetition in the combat its only really challenging when you have 3 of them attacking you at once. There is also no options to change there intelligence level.
In Lords of the Realm II: Siege pack you get 10 new castles, new battle maps and an editor to customize them or make your own, new terrain types and weapons, and new country map with over 20 new realms to conquer.
Lords 2 is probably one of the best strategy games I have ever played and the expansion just makes it better. Which would have been a better sequel then Lords 3 was which was just a mistake for sierra to release and was a sad sequel. The graphics for the time are very well done the storyline while being simple is a very good storyline. Lords 2 has many hours of game play plus loads of replay value especially after beating the first level as it’s never the same game twice.

Game Review 2 (written by Commandera9) Added on: 08/28/2006
This add on to the classic Sierra game “Lords of the Realm 2” is an excellent expansion for people who want bigger, better castle wars. Lords of the Realm 2 includes some aspects of resource management, but while running your economy is important (An army marches on its stomach, after all), the focus of the game is combat. Armies clashing on fields of battle is always stimulating entertainment, but the true defining aspect of medieval warfare was castles. The greatest part of Lords of the Realm 2 is the castle sieges. The Siege Pack takes them to the next level by including a group of historic battles, with replicas of historic castles. In addition to scenarios, the Siege Pack gives new castle designs for single player games. The Siege Pack also has a map editor tool, although to my disappointment the player to can’t design personalized fortresses.
The Siege Pack makes some other changes, too. Diplomacy options have changes some, but the diplomacy aspect of the game is still not much more than a token presence. The only real use of diplomacy is still to create temporary alliances. Sierra has added new random events which pop up from time to time during the game. Difficulty levels have also been adjusted, and Sierra says that the AI has been improved and is more realistic. No more defeating a massive army so a small group of knights doing hit and run.
Not everybody enjoyed the economic aspect of the strategic game, so the Siege Pack incorporates a skirmish mode for those players who want to go directly to bloodshed without taking the time to raise an army, manufacture weapons, and build a castle. When setting up a skirmish, players can decide between castle games or combat in open fields. The player can also customize the units on each team, or let the computer build the armies. Custom maps can also be used in these skirmishes. With these new features, Lords of the Realm: Siege Pack adds even more replay value to an already versatile game.
All in all, the Siege Pack is Sierra’s attempt to take one of the greatest medieval warfare games of all time game and make it better. With extra castles, better AI, and an all new skirmish mode, they have succeeded.
