Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 01/14/2008
There are plenty of strategy games and adventure games set in the future. These games are often set in a post-apocalyptic setting. The game Maelstrom is no different. Maelstrom is a futuristic strategy game that was released in the 90s.
There is a world called Harmony although the place is far from being a serene nation. The place was actually ravaged in an interplanetary war and now everything is in chaos from the planet’s physical state to its economy. Many technologies were becoming primitive as the war raged on and all planetary systems were practically crumbling.
One day a powerful unknown force almost blew up the entire planetary system which caused the war to end.
After the war, one planet, the Zokbar J, emerges as a powerhouse. Now the planet is building an empire by taking over weak planets devastated by the war. Zokbar J has created the Syndicate now taking over the world with the help of the powerful yet mysterious force that ended the war.
The Syndicate is now eyeing the world the Harmony because of its rich mineral resources that are able to power ships and other military gadgets and devices.
In the game, you will play an officer that was once with the Syndicate but has turned against the faction. You have seen how the Syndicate does their business and you are not pleased with how it is treating the nations that are in distraught.
At first you were sent by the group to Harmony to study the planet and see how it is possible to invade the planet without damaging it so you can continue to mine the precious minerals. But instead of following the syndicate’s orders, you decide to go against the Syndicate and help the people of Harmony.
Your duty would have to be to run Harmony in order to become ready to face the Syndicate. This involves getting Harmony’s army in top shape and getting its economy ready. Managing Harmony involves taking care of all aspects of Harmony’s internal and external relations and transactions. You must manage the following: the people, the military, mineral mining, technology and the secret intelligence agency. You need to make good progress in all the aspects of the planets life.
This is a good strategy game with nice graphics and smooth controls. It’s a lot like the other strategy games and it doesn’t offer anything new to gamers but it is well-made so it’s worth downloading.
