PTO II is based on the war in the pacific that was part of World War II. You will have the option to start fighting from the very beginning of the game, allowing you to start in several areas of the war. With the campaign you are only able to start at three different points of the war, which are the beginning, middle and end of the war. You will be taking control of the Navy forces of both nations, trying to outsmart one another.

There are two kinds of bases that are in the game. The first are bases that can launch air cover and supplies for your fleets, which will be represented by squares. The other kind of bases is village or posts,
which can only accompany land forces such as the soldiers or marines. A circle represents this base. There are a maximum number of four land forces that can occupy each base at a time. Some bases are not under the US control but you are able to control some of them yourself.
There is a very complex part that occurs in PTO II that can be a bit difficult for the new players. At the end of each month you will have a monthly conference discussing the plan for the coming months and discussing your budget. There are cards that will represent ideas and political aspects. The cards that you will use are: plan, refuse, plead, direct, bide, pass, unify, and extend, each card doing its own thing.
In the asset command you will have a large map to select which once opened you will see a lot of red blinking dots and a few blue ones. Here you can monitor your oil and ore supplies wanting to keep a close eye on it since the Japanese have already taken a lot of it when the American’s were rebuilding. If you lose any of the bases along the route your oil and ore supplies will begin to fall.
There is a minimum amount of technology at this time. You have two radars that are equipped to the navy ships. If you want more and better technology you will want to invest money into it at the end of the month conference. It is important to install the radars into your ships, which can be done in the move phase at a base dock.
The game is great when it comes to how realistic it is. The pictures of civilians and military personnel are quite realistic. The breakdowns and specifications on the ships, planes, and tanks as well are great. The game matches what could have happened historically. A few of the campaigns are not historical, but with this you have the option to create your own war and have it become what you thought it could be. With the ability to design your own ship while you are improving your technology is great. Your fleet is growing while your knowledge for the game is growing.
PTO II is a fun and a very realistic strategy simulation game that you will definitely want to check out. It can be difficult when you first start, but once you get over that and it becomes easier for you, you will find this to be one of the greatest war simulations out there.
