Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/22/2007
People General is a very uncomplicated turn based strategy game that is similar to the real classic DOS games. The game is easy to learn with or without the tutorial’s assistances. After you’ve been playing the game just for several minutes you will get the hang of it. The controls are also just as simple. They consist of clicking to select your unit, clicking to move it to another location, and clicking to fire. Each unit is quite different from another and this allows you to get into phenomenal detail for the set up of your team, selecting who ever is right for which ever job you require to be done. Finding information on your opponent is just as simple as well. All you have to do is right click over your enemy and do a few things with your mouse and you will discover the information on them.
The set up of the graphics do have limited animation but you will still see when your unit is shooting. The terrain of the game has been done with great detail varying with every different terrain you play on. There is music in the game, which adds to the battlefield. You will hear the sounds of your battles echoing in the distance as you carry on with whatever objective you are working on.
There is a large selection of vehicles for you and your opponent to select from. You will be able to find the correct unit for the battle you are going to take part in. Each battle will be marked with an estimated loss for you and your opponent, showing you if it would be a wise idea to use that unit in that battle. This makes the combat a little easier with the added assistance. The computer is just as good as a human player when it comes to battles. They will not only take part but also start them. This is great because a lot of games nowadays the computer will wait for you to begin the fighting.
There is a scenario editor as well with this game. This will allow you to edit one of your favourite maps to how you would prefer it or even customize your own terrain. You will be able to select the climate and weather as well as how long you would want the game to last and who will control the skies. You will be able to pick any scenario and create it as your own. You will have up to a maximum of four armies battling it out for either the East side or West side. Each of these teams will have a selection of units from five different countries, but setting one as their main country and their allies. There is a selection of thirteen different armies to create your units from and prepare for the most insane battles you’ll ever see in the gaming world.
People General has a very in depth gaming aspect, and the custom capabilities are great with nice and easy controls. If you do enjoy the very simple turn based strategy games with a lot of combat appeal, People General is a must have for you and your friends. With the large amount of changes you can do to each terrain, there is no way you won’t think of this game as your own creation. There is no way you will not want to sit and play this game for days, since it’s impossible to get bored of your own terrains and the creation of someone else’s. People General has tons of combat and even more personality all in one!
