Pirates 2

Genre:  Strategy    |     Year: 2000    |     Publisher: Freeware     |     Developer: Freeware
Game Review 1 (written by Steve) Added on: 03/21/2007
Being a fan of the original Pirates! game, Marcel Strbak, decided to 're-program' the original game and add many new features, such as an improved dating options, more realistic weather, the ability to angle your cannons, and other features. Called Pirates 2, this game is available as freeware. A registration can be obtained just by sending an e-mail, and the game is not crippled in any way. The final version, however, is not finished yet – the help files are completed only for one half, and the game has funny memory needs that may crash the program on some computers.
Once it becomes fully playable, the final version should be a God’s gift to those who love the original Pirates!.
In general the game is the same as the original Pirates!, but it also features some of the following things: 256-colored graphic, improved "in a city" part, you can use mouse to select destination, smoother scrolling, manual sails and cannons control during fight, new cargo was added – Gun Powder – which is essential for shooting, new ground-battle system like real-time strategy, trading and allying with other ships, more active dating, health and doctor features, you can choose your face, and much more…
Pirates 2 is an excellent game with some new interesting features and all of them together makes the original Pirates game even better and makes it more complete even though that was hard to do after the first original game.
The game is non-linear for certain. At first, you have to choose your nationality. Then you start off in one of the towns. You can buy goods (hopefully they are cheap), visit with the mayor of the town, or visit the local tavern (this enables you to acquire more men to join your party...which definitely helps in fights that will ensue) here. Once you leave town, you are totally free to go anywhere you want.
If you decide to go to another town and attack it... it would be good for you. If you just want to sail to another town and sell your goods – that's fine too. Personally, I start attacking any ship that crosses my path, collecting the goods that it is carrying, and selling it to the next town that I come across.
And so on…
Overall, a very good game!!!

Game Review 2 (written by Kenneth1980) Added on: 03/17/2007
For it's time Pirates 2 was good. There wasn't much out there as far as pillaging and sacking the Caribbean at it's time. Sid Miere also had come out with his famous Civilization out yet either. It had good graphics, good sound if you could actually get your soundblaster to work. It was really entertaining game.
This game is just as addicting as the original and can consume my time for hours, just like the original. You basically take ship around the Caribbean and take out other ships. They can be Pirate ships or ships belonging to European countries. By doing this you gain gold and reputation (this can be good or bad, depending on who you are fighting).
The sea battles are the most exciting part of the game and where most of the action occurs, but you can also go to ports (assuming you are friendly with that port) and purchase upgrades for your ship and get new crewmembers. You also gain information on other pirates and where they may be hiding out and on the routes of various ships that may be of interest to you, like treasure ships.
I did find the end quest challenging. It is tough to get everything done for the end quest, especially while you are still young. Always choose the rapier and you will probably have to try the end quest several times to beat the final swordfight, unless you have some crazy mad skills that I don't.
I guess you could always play to try to beat your old score, accumulating as much treasure as possible before you become an old, painfully, slow seadog who gets too senile to win an easy sword fight and eventually get knocked out.

This is one of the greatest games created. You are on the high seas looking to save your family while combating pirates and climbing in rank. You get to search for treasure and sword fight

I have always been a fan of Pirates since reading Treasure Island. This game has a similar atmosphere and it is very well portrait. They do not make games like this anymore. There is a real sense of adventure that draws you in and keeps you entertained. It is not a point and click game so you will need to enhance fighting skills.

Really enjoyed this game. The replay ability of this game is one of its greatest features, because you get a different experience each time you play it. I have always been a big fan of strategy games, and this is one of the classic franchises in game history. It can be a very addictive game as well.

This game is funny. So are the characters. It's a good adventure. The graphics are also colorful and bright.(well at least on my computor. The pirates have as much character than in the first game. Level selection, createable characters, and it's a blast. Play it! This game is a must play!

This game is one of the best. I would recommend this game to anyone who has free time and a couple hours at least to play. DON’T start playing if you are going to have to be leaving your house to go anywhere because it really draws you in!
