Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 01/05/2008
Futuristic space battles have become one of the most common themes of video games. There have been so many battle games released in the last two decades that it has become so easy to compare a really good game and a mediocre one. Sadly, Renegade Legion is just an average game. It may mediocre but it does not mean it is not capable of providing fun. If I were you I wouldn’t shy away from this game because it’s not really bad.
And if you have been playing games for such a long time that you are already running out of great video games to try, then I suggest you download this game and a couple of other classics just to experience a new game.
Renegade Legion is a space combat videogame that was based on a board game with the same name. The game features the war between the Terran Overlord Government and the Commonwealth. The video game was actually able to capture the essence of the board game and was successful at bringing the game to gamers from the early 90s to the present.
This turn-based role playing game that features a top down perspective can be played alone or as a two player game. The combat situations are featured in real-time and the player can also choose between a full mission or a single battle mode. The game starts with choosing the ships. Each ship has its strengths and weaknesses. You have to choose seven ships and seven pilots to man the ship using the limited amount of money that are given to you at the start of the game.
There are a number of weapons and other items that you can use to customize your ship to make them suit your combat strategy and needs. This is actually one of the better parts of the game as some aspects such as the game play can fall flat even in the mission mode. Being able to customize the ship provided one of the better thrills in the game.
To play the game you must position your ships in the hex based map based on what will give you the best outcome during the battle. This is where the strategy part of the game comes in. You have to think of the positions that will cause the most damage to your opponent.

This was such a fun game to play with friends, the ability to customize the fighters really allowed a person to try different stategies. Being turn based it also allowed for plenty of beer and pretzels time.
