Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 01/15/2008
Roadwar 2000 is a strategy game that was created by Westwood Studios. Westwood Studios is popular for having created real-time strategy games such as Dune II. Like most other futuristic adventure games, Roadwar 2000 has a post-apocalyptic setting. The funny thing is “future” in the game is 1999, a year that has long passed. This game is similar to Wasteland and is a good strategy game. This game was originally developed for the Apple II in 1986 but it was ported for the PC in 1987.
Terrorists have unleashed a virus that has caused human systems and civilization to crumble.
You are the leader of a street gang that is now taking over the weak. It is a harsh world that has become a free-for-all chaos. As you go along the game and do quite well in the harsh environment, the government decides to hire you to search for eight scientists that can save the world. You have to bring the scientists back to a secret base so that they can put together a cure for the virus and put the nation back to its old state.
The game features map of North America and you lead your gang to the different locations. You will loot the chaotic and weak cities, fight with other gangs, and capture vehicles for your own use. At the start of the game you will only have one car to use for the whole gang but as you defeat other gangs, you can take away their trucks and other vehicles which will greatly improve your performance in the game. You will also be recruiting new members for the group. After battles, you can promote your men to higher ranks which means they will also do better in future battles against other gangs. Basically, it features what will likely happen in a post-apocalyptic world. You just have to survive it. You can’t bring all the supplies you encounter in a game but you can keep some of your stash in one city and bring only the supplies that will be used immediately in the game.
There are locations that can hold much more value for your gang than other locations such as hospitals and oil refineries so make sure you get control of them to give you definite advantage in the game.
This may not be the best strategy game there is but if you have tried all other strategy games and want to download a new one for the sake of gaining a new experience, then you should download this game and give it a try. You’ll surely have fun with it.
