In my opinion, this is one of the finest games in the Romance Of The Three Kingoms series. While it might not add that many features in comparison to other versions, the upgrade in graphics all but makes up for the lack of new features. Now, don't be fretting what I said about new features not being added, the game is still as solid as ever.
First off, lets start off with the story, three kingdoms, Wu, Shu, and Wei are feuding for land control in China.
You assume role of a general for which ever army you so choose to command. As you beat levels, the game progresses the story. Eventually, which ever kingdom you picked will take control of all China, ending the war of the three kingdoms. The end video signifying your win is very nice, and a nice reward for your efforts.
Now, onto what you all want to read about, gameplay. The core gameplay from the first three games remains perfectly intact. So, players from the series should feel right at home in Romance Of The Three Kingoms 4: Walls of Fire. The game play is your basic real time strategy, select your solider and command him what to do. You control massive armies at a time, on vast landscapes. Each victory in a battle ends with a nice cutscreen and some text that will advance the story a decent amount. Each Kingdom in this game has different generals you can control, and each of them plays a little bit different. In general, I find Wu to be the best kingdom to play as, as their brute strength from generals like Xiao Liang and Cao Cao can't be matched by many on the other kingdoms. One fallacy of the game however is the lopsidedness of free lance general Lu Bu. Lu Bu is simply not fair play against.
In conclusioin, Romance Of The Three Kingoms Four is the best game in the series to date, and should not be over looked by classic real time strategy gamers. If you feel the need for a solid gaming experience, and don't care about perfect graphics, but only care about game play then you are in luck. It seems that this series was over looked in North America, which I find to be a shame, seeing as the game play in the Romance Of The Three Kingoms Real time strategy games is some of the best ever.
