Game Review (written by Jd1boyz) Added on: 04/03/2009
Sons of Liberty is a strategy game that takes place during the American Revolution. Despite the 80's graphics the game is actually quite addicting. There is a small learning curve, but, I was able to master the game in less then an hour.
When first starting the game you can choose whether you want to be the Americans or the British. If you put both American and British as human controlled you can play with a friend or just play against yourself. There are a total of three scenarios that you can choose to play through.
Each scenario is a battle in the war. The three battles you can choose from are Bunker Hill, Monmouth, and Saratoga. In the scenarios there are woods, creeks, swamps, bulwarks, etc. that you can use as tactical advantages. There are a few different types of troops that you can use in the battles. They are infantry, militiamen, cannons, grenadiers, and cavalry. There is more then one way to win each scenario. For example: when I first played Bunker Hill as the British I noticed that the Americans are heavily fortified with bulwarks, ridges, and fences. Charging into the bulwarks is basically suicide and taking the fences can be done, but kind of hard. I found that taking half your forces around

the south side of the ridges and bulwarks just north of the town and hitting them from behind while the other half of your army continues to fire at them from the east side you can surround them. Take out their cannons and hit their bulwarks at all sides after taking the fence. Eventually they all retreated and I was able to corner them on the west side of the map and won. That is just one way to win that scenario. I have been successful using other methods as well.
Sons of Liberty just take a little practice and getting used to. At the bottom of the screen during your scenarios it tells you what, buttons do what. Once you have learned what everything does and what, buttons to press when you want to move your forces or attack someone etc. The controls become second nature.
I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a good strategy game. So give it a try, if you got some time to kill and I promise you won’t regret it.
