Ah, Star Control 2 Brings back memories. Mainly of spending half of my childhood trying to complete it! The game begins with you controlling a space vessel around the solar system Solaris. You (using your immensely slow and very hard to manoeuvre ship) travel towards you home planet and are greeted by a robot/alien vessel. A conversation begins in which no matter what you say, you cannot please this "life form". A battle ensues. You task is to use your previously mentioned ship, or a small battleship called and Earthling cruiser to defeat this foe.

This is where playing Star control 1 has come in handy because you will need the target practice! Once defeating the foe, you are once again free to visit Earth. There
you learn that the universe is in disarray, with different alien life forms fighting each other and a majority of the universe being controlled by a race known as the Ur-Quan. (Wait till you meet them, not the best looking race of people!)
From there on, you have to travel from planet to planet, using a small planet exploring shuttle to discover resources which give you money to further develop your master ship. You can fit it out with weapons, speed, manoeuvrability, and anything you'd need in space travel. Further technology can be found later through other races which help you improve more, but I'm not going to help out too much. Frustration is what keeps you coming back for more!
Anyway, back to the storyline, move from solar system to solar system, exploring the planets there and avoiding the new environments that confront you and search for new civilisations of aliens either on the earth or flying around. There was a small hint for you. The ultimate goal of this game is to defeat the endless fleets of Ur-Quan and find their home world so you can put a stop to them completely.
I would advise any person without a great deal of time on their hands not to play this game. Your house will become messy, you job unattended and if you have family, they will leave you! One of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of playing as you have to combine quick reflexes with intelligence, problem solving and bravery. (We all get a scare from time to time in games and you may jump once or twice.)
If rating this game I would have to give it a very rare 10 out of 10 because there is just so much to do. Enjoy! And don't cheat!
