Star wars chess is a great game for all chess players and for all star wars fans alike it is the complete mix that makes this a great game.
Chess it’s self is a fun game but with the star wars twist this is what makes this game even more enjoyable than any other chess game I have played. The automated scenes when you take the other persons pieces or (they take yours which is not good) are fun to watch and makes you want to take all the opponents pieces they are short but still great fun.
There are two sides of course if you know star wars and chess at all in stead of white Vs blacks in traditional chess now you play with the light side Vs the dark side.
The white side pieces are as follows, Artoo-Detoo's for pawns, Yodas for rooks, Wookies are your knights, See-Threepio's play the role of bishops, Leia is the queen and Luke is the king.
And the dark side pieces are Storm Troopers for pawns, All Terrain Scout Transport walkers for rooks, Tusken Raiders for knights, Boba Fetts for bishops, Vader is the queen, and the Emperor is the king. Not very flattering for Vader being a queen but still it’s great fun.
So what ever mood you are in you have the
chose you can represent the light side and defend the galaxy or be the dark side and try and vanquish the republic
The game play is good but the animation can be slow at times the backgrounds are well designed you have the chose of two between a star field and the death star throne room I preferred to play on the death star throne room, I like to think that I was ether defending the death star from attack from the republic (when playing as the dark side) or attacking the death star (when playing with the light side),
Going back to the animation if you are finding it a bit repetitive and boring seeing the same scenes over and over again this can be easily be resolved all you have to do is press Esc a couple of times and this will stop playing the animation (of taking pieces or moving) but I never found it to be a real problem I just use this time to try and think of my next move or sat there think to my self why did I just move there why didn’t I see that I can now be taken.
