It's a strategy game where you take control of a squad of troopers and attempt to go through the missions while facing off against a TON of bugs. The graphics for the game considering the time of release are pretty good. A lot of big bangs and a lot of bug blood everywhere. Everything here works when it comes to graphics.
Unlike the movie, you only take control of a very small elite squad of no more than 20. You are able to customize which weapons you want them to carry for endless replayability.

Unlike the movie, you only take control of a very small elite squad of no more than 20. You are able to customize which weapons you want them to carry for endless replayability. The weapons in the game are numerous and each have there own things they excel at. For example, there is your standard rifle which is bread and butter
and there is a rocket launcher which is deadly to not only the bugs but also to your troopers if one is not careful.
Later in the game you can take control of marauders (mechs) but can only be given out to a handful of troopers. These will enhance the squad's efficiency at bug extermination. The brunt of the gameplay has you following a set of missions while you face a nonstop horde of bugs. You want to minimize the amount of casualties your team suffers by planning out every attack. Simply rushing into a bug hole will get a squad killed in a matter of seconds. There are many commands which can be given out to the troopers but most of them are not used.
One thing that I was disappointed with was just the lack of bugs on the screen in comparison to the movie. Where in the movie a thousand bugs would clog up the screen but here in this game, hardly more than 50. But that comes with the limitations of when the game was released. Plus it makes for much more intimate shootouts rather than endless waves of repetition. The controls can be a bit awkward at first but it that’s how all games are.
If you are of the movie or an avid RTS fan, then this game will be right for you. Just get passed the huge learning curve and you should be fine.
