Game Review (written by Brogan) Added on: 03/14/2007
I just recently finished StrongHold. I found it to be a very entertaining PC game as I am a MidEvil warfare fan. I found it exciting to watch the action onscreen whenever I was sieging a castle or repelling the Wolf's forces.
The narration was superbly done between scenarios, the voice for Sir LongArm I especially liked. The people sound effects were done very nicely except it got to be rather repetitive around the end of the game.
Could it be possible to have a zoom feature so a player could really see the quality of the graphics and the action and fighting viewed up close? I noticed as well that if a command issued for a large amount of troops to converge in a small area (i.
e.: through a drawbridge) that it would get very confusing a blurry as to what is happening. I suppose it is because being an earlier game. The graphics are inferior to today’s standards.
Could it be possible to name individual characters? What I mean by that is when you have, for example, 20 archers could you name each one individually? The fluidity of motion for characters was good. I like the fact that the Bowyer/Fletcher had a limp when getting supplies and delivering his final product to the armory. I think more of a response is needed for the wolves and the bears when they wander near the workers and peasants. Also I feel that the surrounding workers and peasants would come running to help

when a worker or peasant was attacked.
The maps were good for each scenario as well as the mini movies of the leaders. It was comical watching the Rat rant and rave when his forces were being squashed and how he quivered whenever the Wolf scolded him. I would have like to try and survive the ambush earlier in the game but still it was a nice touch to the story as it gave an incentive to complete the scenarios to reach the evil Lord Wolf.
The beginning video of "Life was Easy back then..." was superbly done. Seeing the old guy in the stocks getting hit with vegetables was quite funny. To end it all be having those Knights who ran their hearts out to get to the castle being boiled in oil was classic! Out of 10 I would give this game an 8.7. To see the Wolf fall into the darkness was especially satisfying at the end of the game. Thank you.

A game that keeps you occupied with the details that make it interesting enough to play again and again.

This is a great game for killing hours upon hours of time. It is one of the original dungeons and dragons games that came out in the mid nineties and went for quality rather than quick distribution.
