Third Reich is a video game that was adapted from the Third Reich board game that was created by the Avalon Hill. The game was originally released for DOS. It is a strategy game that was released in the mid-nineties. The game is also turn-based just like a real board game. The game is really the board game translated into video. Everything about the game was adapted into the video game even the complex rules and all the sub-phases.
The game is set during World War II. To play the game you need to choose between the Allied Forces or the Axis. The Axis is composed of Germany and Italy while the Allied Forces are composed of the United States, Russia, France, England and others.
The game is complicated and takes getting used to. If you have no experience playing games that are similar to this game then it will take you a while to learn the game and to truly enjoy it. This is perfect though for those who really enjoy good challenges in video games. This is the kind of game that gives you immense satisfaction when you master it because it is pretty tough. Those who love challenging games will
be kept busy by this game for many, many hours.
You will be placed in various historically correct scenarios that happened during the Second World War. You can play alone against the computer or you can play against another human opponent. The main focus of the game is the resource management. You need to make sure that you make the right decisions when it comes to the Basic Resource Point, the currency that is used in the game. The Basic Resource Point is what you can use to buy things for your faction and also to perform actions.
I would recommend this game to more experienced gamers and to those who truly love war games. Only experienced gamers and those who love war games will most likely enjoy this game and not get frustrated by the cumbersome rules and details. Those who like easy, mindless gaming to just relax and relieve stress will probably find this game too complicated.
Personally I don’t hate this game at all but I only got to play it about three times since the nineties. This is mainly due to my preference for puzzle games and games that are easy to do so that I can take a short break from my work and just have fun.
