Game Review (written by Kgrandstrand) Added on: 01/20/2007
I first played Uncharted Waters when I was 15 years old. To this day, I would honestly say that it is the best video game I have ever played. I am 30 years old right now, and trying to find it online so that I can play it again. What does that tell you? The best part of the game...trading. I work in finance, and have always been fascinated by numbers, so it is probably no surprise that a game in which you can make tons of money is the one for me.
So, all of you finance geeks out there, check this one out.
Today we can buy systems like the PS3, Xbox 360 or the Wii, and while I'm sure that the graphics and gameplay are amazing, there is no substitute for the basics. Great game play that hooks you. Granted the graphics are not great, and the game has its bugs, but who cares? It is fun.
You start out as a young adventurer, trying to win the heart of the King's daughter by completing missions and building wealth. First, you must get a boat, and hire a crew. Hold on to your delusions of grandeur because it takes a while to get established. Quick trips between ports help build up your bank roll. After several trips you can start expanding your fleet and exploring the world. Why? Well, it's all about the money, right? Sail around the Horn of Africa, and find gold and spices. Sail to Jamaica and buy coral that you can sell for a huge profit in Spain.
If trading is not enough for you, and you hunger for the thrill of battle, you can build a fleet and terrorize those people who are weaker than you. Sail the seas hunting trading fleets, because that happens to be much easier than sailing all the way to America, and the money can be just as good.
I would absolutely recommend this game to anyone looking for a way to kill hours on end. It is not as realistic as Call of Duty, or as challenging as Halo, but it has a simple premise that just does not get old. I have been playing this game for 15 years now...on and off of course...but each time I start over I get just as excited as I was the first time I played. This game is so good that I am writing a 400 word review just so I can download a copy. Get off your butt and get this game, it is totally worth it.
