Game Review (written by Syd3) Added on: 01/10/2007
Uncharted Waters 2 is, in my opinion a wonderfully open-ended and well designed game. It was made by KOEI games though it does not resemble their earlier games at all.
The game takes place in the Age of Exploration and is incredibly diverse. There are many career paths to choose from.
Pirate- You sail the high seas and set off to plunder peoples fortunes and sink ships that belong to royalty. This style of game play uses the battle mode of the game a lot which resembles a turn based version of Sid Meir’s Pirates. You can receive letters of marquee from country leaders and become a privateer in this career path as well.
Explorer- In this career choice you set off to explore every square inch of the world! OF course you don’t have to explore the parts of Europe currently known to man. Though some may think it boring, I find this the greatest and best way to play the game, your fame constantly goes up and you get lots of money for your experiences. Also you can rename settlements that you discover!
Trader- This is a career path not for the faint of heart. One must get rare supplies (perhaps from China) back to Europe for a huge profit and not be attacked by malicious pirates! Not my favourite mode of game play but it is still a fun way to play.
Uncharted Waters 2 is based on one sole idea. You are a sailor living in the 15th or 16th century. Other than that you can pretty much do whatever you feel like doing! Even if you are an explorer and you are running out of cash you always have the options to pick up some supplies to make a little extra cash. Also you could prey on an unsuspecting merchant!
Though this game is fun it does have it’s drawbacks. When sailing in certain areas you are bombarded with storms that make it almost impossible to survive and not perish to a watery grave. Also when you are an explorer you have to go up rivers and explore every part of the bare sea to complete the game which is aggravating and takes lots of time but in the end it is worth it.
Overall Uncharted Waters 2 is a really open ended game that is extremely fund and easy to play! Now unravel your sails and have a ball!
