Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/30/2007
Utopia is a managerial strategy game that takes place in the future on a new planet. Your task in the game is to colonize the planet, manage this colony and then rise how the lives are lived. You must do all this to reach the level of utopia.
You will be building everything from scratch with only a few colonists. The building of your colony will take time and patience and a lot of money. Some of the buildings that you create will require staffing for them to function, which means you, will have to start bringing in people. You will have to keep an eye on your tax rates, birth rates and trade to allow your colony to function correctly.
With the development of your colony you will also have to compete against an alien race that is as well trying to colonize your planet. You are unable to form an alliance with the aliens making it that your two populations will come into conflicts. You won’t actually see the development of the alien city since it is not located on the map that you are playing on, so you will require having spies who will find out all the needed information to make sure you are developing your colony more efficiently.
Utopia has ten different scenarios that you are able to try. Each planet varies in different ways of terrain and a different version of an alien race. Each scenario is named after the alien race that you will be competing against.
Your map is capable of having a maximum of two hundred and fifty six buildings, a hundred tanks, and forty space ships all at one time. When you continue to try building more you will receive a message stating that it can’t be built quite yet.
The graphics that go along with this game are pretty basic with a top down view. With the lack of effort placed into the graphics you wouldn’t expect to enjoy yourself as much, but there is no lack of enjoyment at any point in this game. Overall Utopia does have enough visual appeal that will keep you interested.
Utopia is a great managerial game for any player. With you attempting to recreate a planet’s colony while competing against various alien races you will discover endless possibilities. With the game not being too difficult for the average player you will grow with the game as it increases in difficulty. If you love playing those managerial simulations and pretty much building an entire nation or colony you must try Utopia. With the endless possibilities that will occur throughout the entire game there is no possible way you will ever get bored of this game.

Torrent1 (09/30/2006) I been looking for this game for sometime now. I'm glad to see that there are people out there that are into the older computer game as I am. |
