X-COM: Apocalypse

PC
Genre:  Strategy    |     Year: 1997    |     Publisher: MicroProse Software     |     Developer: Mythos Games Ltd.
Game Review (written by Bennyk) Added on: 10/06/2006
X-Com: Apocalypse (simply referred to as either X-Com 3 or X-Com: Apoc) is the third in the X-Com series. Still defending the planet from alien invasion, but this time around things is different. Rather than have control of bases and going out, saving cities, shooting down UFOs and assaulting Earth based alien bases like the first two, you are focused in a little more into one single city. 100 years after the events of X-Com: Terror from the Deep(X-Com 2), the world populous converged into one HUGE city called Mega-Primus, thinking this was the end of the aliens(and nearly themselves for that matter due to the war torn world)a rift suddenly appears in the sky and UFOs start pouring out.

of the newly reformed X-Com project to save humanity from fading away once again.
Whether your way of taking care of the alien problem is "If it isn't one of us X-Com agents, it dies" or "We MUST save everyone and kill the aliens without losing a single soldier", you can't go wrong with the game in general. Though some strategies may be wrong or just not work out at times, your will always be thinking on how to deal with the new threat when it pokes its ugly head out.
With better graphics, the introduction of possible Real-Time play instead of turn based if you want, this game is hours of fun and plenty challenging for old fans and new alike. New weapons, both old and new foes, you'll quickly understand why this game is sometimes referred to as the "True sequel" to the original X-Com: UFO Defense rather than X-Com: TFTD.

This is on of the best squad level turn based games I have ever played. The graphics are really good for an older games, with a lot of gaming options. The controls are basing & the entire game can be run from a mouse. In this game you can rename the solders for added fun. You control the research of aliens & equipment. You can raid other companies to gain experience & money

Great game, one of the few you can play over and over again. Brings back great memories of blasting aliens and stuff.

What a beautiful game. I played this game for the first time on 1998, I didn't had a computer at all in home so I had to rent it and paid hourly in order to play this game. For that time this game used to have the best graphics and best sound, the interface was so cool. The story line was great, you had to capture every single UFO, every single alien and study them in order to create a weapon against them and also study their ships to develop technology to go to their home and pay them back. Great game.

I also had a few problems controlling the game, but overall this is a great classic, that should be considered as a re-release of classic games for newer systems.
