X-com terror from the deep is the second game from the X-com series. Very similar to the first X-com game, but this time, instead of defending the land, it is the sea which the aliens are targeting. In this game, the basic idea is to defend planet Earth from invading UFOs.
You run a company called X-com, where you can build bases, hire soldiers, purchase aircrafts to shoot down incoming UFOs, research new weaponries and other gismos to better your defense against incoming aliens.
In normal mode, when you are managing your X-com company, whether buying weapons and equipping them on your soldiers or scanning for alien bases with your aircrafts, you can choose from a few different speeds of passing time.

So if you haven't much to do and are waiting for research to complete, then you can pass time quickly; or if there are UFOs flying in planet Earth's air space then you can slow down time passing so you can intercept the UFO aircrafts.
In the combat mode in X-com: Terror from the Deep, X-com soldiers and enemy aliens are placed on a check patterned combat board (like a chess board but much larger.). Also, this game uses turn base combat system, so you maneuver your soldiers, then the computer moves the enemy’s aliens.
Without spoiling too much, I'll tell you that how much your soldiers can move in a turn is based on the quality of your soldiers, which improves as they get more combat experiences. (Having your soldiers gain combat experiences also improves their accuracy, health points, etc.)
On the combat board, you can only see what your soldiers can see, so say, when there are obstacles, like a wall, you must move your soldiers around it to see whether there are enemy aliens hiding behind (First time I played, I received a right-o-scare when an alien suddenly appeared round the corner, so watch out.).
The graphics in this game is not one of the things the game can be proud of, but it serves the purpose as everything in game can clearly be seen and identified. But I believe those who would download this game would do so for the design in its strategic values.
There is much you can do in X-com: Terror from the Deep beside from what was mentioned. Download it! You won't regret it!
This is an amazing strategy game for its time, and in my opinion, even until this very day.
